Natural Resources Management & Agriculture
Increased demand for food, driven by
population growth, rising incomes and urbanization has further exacerbated
pressure to easy access to natural resources, such as fertile land, water and
energy. Land degradation and water scarcity are worsening. Production
inefficiencies and waste further add to the problem. There is need to
effectively manage and use land, water and energy resources for sustainable
production, productivity and environmental protection. Smallholder agricultural
interventions improve access to natural resources, productive inputs,
technologies, financial services and markets, and increase employment
opportunities for small family farmers. A prosperous agriculture sector
requires innovative technological practices, vivacious markets and investment. IDS-Nepal
