As the potential dangers of contamination were brought to the forefront of the water and sanitation sector, emphasis was placed on the need to conduct testing so as to ensure clean drinking water.
This project involved the water quality testing of 15 different schemes and the preparation of a sanitary surveillance system for each scheme. One day of training was provided to the technical staff of the project so that they could later conduct testing themselves. There was also three days of training focused on water quality issues and sanitary surveillance methods. Awareness-raising techniques were also implemented, as the need for education is vital to the issue. IDS Nepal also conducted knowledge transfer of field-based testing to members of local NGOs so they could continue the testing on their own in the future.
