IDS Nepal is focused on addressing problems relating to the inaccessibility of safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and a lack of health/ hygiene awareness. IDS Nepal is doing so by assisting local communities to implement and manage water, health and sanitation schemes. It focuses mainly on rural areas and is now increasing its focus on impoverished semi-urban areas. The numerous projects within this sector are divided into two main parts:
- Construction (the building of tube wells, latrines, taps and reservoirs, etc.); and
- Social Development (the critical social support that ensures a project’s sustainability, achieved through community empowerment and ownership).
In addition to direct service delivery, IDS Nepal is also involved in research and advocacy activities regarding water and sanitation issues in collaboration with local, national and international partners.
