Implementation of Social Mobilization and Capacity Development Program in Rukum District (Completed July 2011)

Funded by the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) within the World Bank, this project is focuses on three VDCs within the Rukum district. The project has been divided into two streamlines: Income Generation Activities and Infrastructure Development. The Income Generation Activities are developed within the fields of agriculture, livestock farming, entrepreneurship, and capacity building. Infrastructure Development focuses on increasing the accessibility of water resources, small hydropower, enhancing irrigation systems and constructing bridges.

By the completion of the project, one school building and one water supply scheme will be in place in Bijayaswori, one latrine in Ranmamaikot, and one school building and one water supply scheme in Rugha. IDS Nepal’s main task in this project was to facilitate the implementation of income generation activities within the VDCs and to monit

The program succeeded in registering and legalizing 35 Community Organizations (Bijayashowri:15, Ranmamaikot:6 and Rugha:14). IDS facilitated the installment of five toilets, three income generation activities, four water supply schemes, and 25 taps in each community. A total of 2008 households (Male: 311; Female: 693; Dalit: 280; Indigenous: 335 and others: 389), and a population of 14,056 benefited from the project. or and supervise the construction of related infrastructure.
