Implementation of Social Mobilization and Capacity Development Program in Rukum District (Completed July 2010)

Funded by the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) within the World Bank, this project focused on three VDCs within the Rukum district. The project has been divided into two streamlines: Income Generation Activities and Infrastructure Development. The Income Generation Activities are developed within the fields of agriculture, livestock farming, entrepreneurship, and capacity building. Infrastructure Development focuses on increasing the accessibility of water resources, small hydropower, enhancing irrigation systems and constructing bridges.

By the completion of the project, one school building and one water supply schemewill be in place in Bijayaswori, one latrine in Ranmamaikot, and one school building and one water supply scheme in Rugha. IDS Nepal’s main task in this project was to facilitate the implementation of income generation activities within the VDCs and to monitor and supervise the construction of related infrastructure.

The project led to the formation of 40 Community Organizations, each of which were provided capacity building training. It was calculated that 180 households and 990 people have benefited from this project.
