Start Date: March 12, 2012
End Date: TBA
Donor(s): Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN)
Budget: NRs. 45,034,240.00 (US$ 615,702.50)

This national-level project been allocated to IDS Nepal by Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) United Kingdom and aims to provide estimates of losses and benefits of climate change, specifically focusing on agriculture and water sectors in Nepal. It is the first of its kind, and it is expected to contribute to Nepal’s wider climate change and development policies by transforming the climate change issue from a mere environmental issue to an economic one, using a scenario-based impact assessment approach. Where possible, it will explore alternative options to address these costs. The ranking of climate compatible development (CCD) policy will be the second major objective of the project.

Three different time periods will be considered by this project; short (2020-2030), medium (2040-2070) and long (2070-2100) with the analytical work being done in the initial two periods.

The project is being jointly supported by Practical Action Consulting Limited (PAC) Nepal, and Global Climate Adaptation Partnership (GCAP) United Kingdom. The consortium brings together the leading international and national expertise in economic impact assessments of climate change, combined with knowledge and experience of the political, social, economic and environmental realities in Nepal.
