Climate and Disaster Knowledge Network (CDKN), Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Integrated Development Society Nepal (IDS) Nepal, LEAD Pakistan and All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI) convened "Making HFA 2 Work: A Round Table" on October 15, 2014 in Kathmandu Nepal.
As the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) comes to a close in 2015, great deals of energy and resources have been mobilized in shaping a successor framework to the HFA. Currently known as the ‘HFA 2’, the pre-zero draft of this future framework for disaster risk reduction was circulated a few weeks ago. However, general consensus seems to be that there is scope for more ambition and creativity in future drafts of the HFA 2 to make the final framework that will come into force in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan robust and effective. Also, it is time to start talking about the arrangements that need to be made in order for the new framework to be implemented effectively Nepal has done so much to reduce risks.
This was a structured discussion with a small group of 23 leading regional and national humanitarian, Government and DRR actors from Nepal, India and Pakistan focused on the HFA2.
